Taking a Proactive Approach to Your Work

I can't think of any better advice to anyone wanting to get things done than to DO MORE NOW.

Yep, it's quite simple. Action has a way of getting results that the most proficient planner can never predict. Now I'm not saying that you shouldn't have a plan, and that you shouldn't do your groundwork before you take the first step. But there comes a time when you've just got to get out there and start work towards your goal.

No matter how much you need to get done, whatever your goal, or what you want to achieve you will simply never get there without taking the first step.

Taking a Proactive Approach to Your Work

You'll also get there faster if you start sooner! So take a look around, see what you've got already going for you, understand where you are and where you want to be and then go for it! You'll learn so fast that way.

I've often found that the things I though would be hard were not that hard, and the things I learned along the way helped me make up my mind about exactly what I wanted to do anyway. All those things I was unsure about while I was just "thinking about it" became unimportant and now the things that are important are more fun to tackle!

Proactive decision making and taking massive action towards your goal is a theme that will develop more and more power inside you too. As you can see yourself achieving your goals faster, and earlier than you will be drawn like a magnet towards doing more and more.

And the more you do, and the more you achieve the more you'll want to do more. It's inspirational!

So take the step today. Make a decision to do something towards what you want to achieve and you'll get there sooner. It's important.

Have a Blessed Day!

How often do you hear people say, "Have a Blessed Day"? This, along with "God bless you" to name another rote statement, have become some of the many emotionless phrases we say out of habit that we really don't mean. Like saying, "How are you?" and not really caring enough to pay attention to the answer you receive.

Many times the person giving this wonderful greeting doesn't feel this good cheer for themselves either. They say things out of habit void of any real emotion and go right back to feeling negative, focusing on their own troubles and woes.

I got up early one morning and, like most of us, my mind began to search for troubled thoughts. It's like putting your radio on a control called "seek" and the radio automatically begins to find all the strong signals or stations available. Troubled thoughts can be louder and stronger than positive ones, if you let them. But here is where you can make the choice to find something you want to hear.

Have a Blessed Day!

So when my mind went on automatic and began to seek the negative thoughts, I took the controls and decided where I wanted my mind to stay. I chose to have a blessed day. I decided to look in the mirror and love the person I saw. I put on my clothes, combed my hair, put on a little makeup and gave myself my warmest smile, generally reserved for those I love.

I decided to feel blessed and focus on the wonderful things going on in my life. You see, whatever is not good in your life will still be there tomorrow. And tomorrow you can decide not to have a blessed day, if you like. You can tell yourself tomorrow that you are fat, that you are broke and that you are headed for destruction. You can decide tomorrow that you hate your job, hate your wife and your life.

But on this day, I decided that I was blessed and I was going to stay that way for the entire day. I can't tell you the happiness I felt. I can't tell you the joy in my heart. It brought tears to my eyes, just to be here. I set my mind solidly on this "station". I made a choice that I was going to have a blessed day. I made this statement out loud--"Whatever comes into my day today, whether it is wonderful and beautiful, or even if it is masquerading as trouble, I am setting my mind on having a blessed day."

So what happened?

It was truly a blessed day. Here are some highlights:

-My grandson gave me his best warm smile and said, "Bye Grandma!" with so much love as I saw him off to school.

-I walked into my backyard and saw two beautiful red mini roses peering out of a flowerpot that I thought was void of life a month ago.

-My husband told me how lucky he is to have me.

-My eldest son told me he put a note in his daughter's lunch just like I used to do for him.

I didn't think he even remembered that--heck, I hardly remembered that!

-A delivery that I really wanted came.

All through the day this is how it went. I really enjoyed myself. And it continued even into the second day all because I created this positive energy in making the decision to have a blessed day. How great is that?

So the next time you tell someone to have a blessed day make sure you mean it. Then go ahead and create one for yourself.

10 Tips on Having a Blessed Day

1. Get up before anyone else no matter what the hour

2. Have quiet alone time to communicate with the universe

3. Do not turn on the radio, television, or talk on the phone during this time

4. Do go outside or open the window

5. Smell the air, listen to the birds, and look up at the sky. Feel connected with it all.

6. Relax and clear your mind

7. Feel an attitude of gratitude for all the great things in your life

8. Decide to carry this with you every minute of the day

9. Declare yourself fabulous and believe it

10. Welcome every opportunity and challenge of the day

How to Build Strong Character - Part 2

Discover how to build strong character in yourself, totally transform your life in the process, and you will be ready to help young people do the same thing. Children and teenagers are able to develop high moral values in their lives, but until you yourself become a model, you cannot successfully teach them how to build strong character. Assuming you have taken the steps presented in part one of this article, how can you guide young people in the development of high moral values?

Young people learn how to build strong character in much the same way as we adults do. We begin by finding out what the benefits are. What's so great about it? What do children and teenagers have to gain? Or, as teens themselves might ask in current slang: "WIIFM? - what's in it for me?" They may text that to one another while you're talking!

Benefits for Teenagers

How to Build Strong Character - Part 2

"Learn how to build strong character as a teenager," you urge, "and you'll gain awesome advantages!" Some teens will smile at you, but others will glare with skepticism. They'll demand to know exactly what benefits they'll get from this apparently boring activity. Be prepared to make it exciting rather than boring, and then give clear, practical examples of perks such as the three below.

· Zit relief: Sure! Begin with something that bothers teenagers. Explain that learning how to build strong character traits such as self-control, determination, and persistence will help keep zits at bay. Determined, persistent self-control of lifestyle factors can greatly reduce the frequency and intensity of teenage acne issues.

· Peer pressure proofing:Most teens are well aware of the pressure to conform to their peer group. Many, whether willing to admit it or not, have encountered situations in which they'd rather not conform. Discovering how to build strong character will help them develop convictions - and the courage of their convictions.

· Academic skill: They may never admit it, but most teenagers would like to have a personal genie that would help them achieve higher grades in school. Whet their appetites for learning how to build strong character traits that are better than genies: responsibility, diligence, and punctuality.

Benefits for Children

What's in it for children who have not yet reached their teen years?

Learning how to build strong character can work a total transformation in children, too. Even toddlers who are too young to connect activity to rewards will profit. Three-to-eight-year-old children are more able to understand that their own moral actions can bring good to them. Nine-to-twelve-year-old young people will readily grasp the concept.

As you would with teenagers, be prepared to inject excitement when you teach children how to build strong character - and offer "wages" they'll love. Explain that they will earn clear benefits such as these.

· Friends: Children almost always want more friends, just as you and I do. They want other people to like them and want to play with them. Explain that learning how to build strong character traits such as kindness, respect, compassion, fairness, and trustworthiness will make people like them better.

· Happiness:What child wants to be unhappy? Like you, children want happiness. Show them how happiness increases when they learn how to build strong character traits such as self-control. When they take power over their own anger, adults won't need to take control. Temper tantrums aren't fun for anyone, you know.

· Independence: It doesn't take children long to develop a longing for independence. "I can do it myself" may be lisped by even a very young child. You can get them excited about learning how to build strong character by showing them how traits such as responsibility, determination, and perseverance lead to greater independence.

Put a little effort into it, and you yourself will be amazed at the enormous benefits of teaching young people how to build strong character.

Know How to Use Books

Show how to build strong character by giving young people purpose-written books, i.e., books that have as their express purpose the teaching of specific moral values. Look for fiction that weaves subtle lessons into exciting plots.

For younger children, choose proactive, teaching fiction that is non-threatening - stories that make the lesson fun, easy to understand, and effective. At this level, books need not cloak the fact that they are teaching how to build strong character. Young children need clarity and repetition to understand.

Older children enjoy series-type books that follow the same hero or heroine through one adventure after another. Plots should be exciting and demand involvement. Mysteries, for example, encourage readers to identify with protagonists and interact as they try to solve the mystery with them. Even those who don't want to learn how to build strong character will get caught up in the fiction and, even inadvertently, come away with understanding.

Teenagers often plant their feet firmly against all attempts to pull them into morality. They don't want to hear what they should and should not do. They are wary of any attempt to teach them how to build strong character traits, even after you've shown them the benefits of such activity. Don't despair. Come in under their radar with teen novels that look like anything other than moral teaching - but subtly weave robust lessons into captivating plots. Some of these novels are actually best-sellers!

Applying Book Knowledge

Young people will benefit somewhat simply by reading such books. If you're serious about training them in how to build strong character, however, you'll need to go back to Part One of this article and teach them to apply the same four steps you had to apply: understand, desire, set goals, and action.

Conclusion

Learn how to build strong character. Encourage young people to do the same. Teach them carefully to be sure they can do it even when you are not at their sides. Not only will you make an astounding change for the better in your own life - you will also contribute to a breathtaking, positive improvement in society.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, A Book Review - Inspirational Modern Classic

Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist is a perfect example of the saying 'good things come in small packages'. The simple little tale conveys a very powerful and inspirational message. First published in Portuguese in 1988, it is considered a modern classic.

Alchemy, derived from the Arabic word al-kimia, is both a philosophy and an ancient practice focused on the attempt to change base metals into gold, investigating the preparation of the "elixir of longevity", and achieving ultimate wisdom, involving the improvement of the alchemist as well as the making of several substances described as possessing unusual properties. (Wikipedia)

The protagonist in this magical fable is a young shepherd of simple means named Santiago. He crosses paths with a King who teaches the young boy the value of reading the signs the world presents us, even in our dreams. The boy's subsequent search for hidden treasure takes him across country borders and brings him into contact with both the deceitful and noblest of humanity. He learns the value of persistence and hard work, the value of humility and the value of honour and bravery. Particularly touching is Santiago's interaction with a crystal merchant who was hesitant to follow his dreams for fear of succeeding. The young boy's courage in seizing opportunities and overcoming adversity inspired all those he came into contact with.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, A Book Review - Inspirational Modern Classic

Santiago's search for hidden treasure is presented as a metaphor for life. Coelho introduces the concept of one's Personal Legend, or destiny. Appealingly though, this destiny is not presented as something that will simply fall into one's lap, but something one needs to strive for. Too often in this inspirational genre readers are given the impression that if we simply wish for something long enough with the purest of intentions, then that wish will come into being. This simple tale reminds us that anything worth having must be worked for and that one does not gain in life without first risking loss. We are also reminded that treasures can come in the form of both material objects and experiences.

Coelho, through this allegorical fable, asserts that life is a journey with an infinite series of decision points, and that the world, if one observes it carefully enough, provides all the information needed to choose the right paths in order to fulfil our dreams.

Although a simple and almost childlike story on one level, The Alchemist has a disarming and beguiling depth to it that will entrance readers of all ages. Its themes are universal and can and should be embraced by people of all races, creeds and religions. At its core, it is a story about doing what is right and noble, and being rewarded for it. This is a must read.

More than 30 million copies of The Alchemist have been sold and it has been translated into more than 67 languages. Other titles by this prolific author include 'The Valkyries', 'By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept', 'Veronika Decides to Die', 'The Devil and Miss Prym', 'Eleven Minutes', 'Like the Flowing River', 'The Witch of Portobello' and 'The Fifth Mountain'.

The Coffee Mom's Devotional - Book Review

The Coffee Mom's Devotional This is a great book for today's busy Moms. It is written by Celeste Palermo, a Christian Mother of two girls.

This great book features 30 brief devotionals filled with humorous coffee puns and latte for the soul. Each devotion is only about 2 pages long. However, packed with a spiritual punch that will light your fire better than any espresso shot Starbucks has to offer! They are short enough that a busy Mom will have the time to nurture her spirit, and long enough to get a good message to take into every day life.

Another great feature The Coffee Mom's Devotional book has is at the end of each devotional there are a couple thought provoking questions. Each of these questions tie in with what that days devotional was about. You are also given a few minor assignments for further reflection and study. You are given the opportunity to have real spiritual growth with the additional activities she gives at the end of each days word. This is one of my favorite things about this awesome devotional for Mothers.

The Coffee Mom's Devotional - Book Review

I really think this is an awesome book and it is filled with lots of humor and truths from God's Word that get your motor revving way better then a cup of joe!

The best part of the Coffee Mom's Devotional is that you know it is written by a fellow Mom and that makes it all the better to read and receive. Who better to minister to a Mom then another Mom??
